The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced that the Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS) is set to launch on July 31, 2025, from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
This mission marks a significant step forward in Pakistan’s space program, designed to boost Earth observation capabilities to support national development. The satellite is equipped with advanced imaging technology that will aid in various sectors, including agriculture, urban planning, environmental monitoring, and disaster management.
PRSS will be instrumental in evaluating and mitigating the effects of natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and glacier melt. It will also support infrastructure planning and resource management, particularly under projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
This launch follows a series of milestones in Pakistan’s space endeavors. Since the 2011 launch of PakSat-1R, developed in collaboration with China, Pakistan has advanced its space technology with satellites like PRSS-1 (2018), PakTES-1A, and most recently, the Electro-Optical Satellite EO-1, launched in January 2025 and noted as the country’s first fully indigenous satellite.
