Google’s new Gemini smart speaker spotted ahead of launch
Google’s latest hardware event was full of announcements, but fans also spotted something unexpected—a mysterious new smart speaker powered by Gemini. Even though it wasn’t officially introduced, leaks now suggest the device is real and could be Google’s next big smart home product.
The upcoming Gemini smart speaker is said to come in four colors: red, green, black, and white. Unlike older Nest speakers that had a glowing light on top, this one glows softly around the base. It also has a fabric finish, giving it a modern and stylish look.
The biggest highlight is its ability to pair with Google TV streamers. This feature will allow spatial audio, meaning the speaker can create surround-sound effects for TV—similar to Apple’s HomePods. Reports suggest it might also work with TVs already running Google TV.
Other rumored features include natural-sounding voice responses, support for the Matter smart home standard, and the ability to detect important sounds like alarms or breaking glass. These upgrades make it more than just a music speaker—it could become a full smart home hub.
Instead of Google Assistant, the speaker will run on Gemini for Home, which officially launches in October. Gemini will also have a premium tier and “Gemini Live” features, though details are still limited.
For now, the device is being referred to simply as “Home Speaker.” A fall release looks likely, lining up with Gemini for Home’s rollout. After that, Google may also update its Nest Hub displays, which haven’t been refreshed since 2021.
