iPhone 17 Pro may launch without reverse charging support

27 August, 2025 16:54

Rumors about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max have created excitement, especially with claims that the phones may support reverse wireless charging.

If true, it would be the first time any iPhone could charge another device wirelessly. However, recent industry updates suggest this upgrade might not arrive just yet.

Google recently launched the Pixel 10 series with Qi2 wireless charging. This system uses built-in magnets, a concept first introduced by Apple through its MagSafe technology, which later became part of the industry standard.

But Google admitted that reverse wireless charging is not possible on the Pixel 10 phones. The reason is that while the magnets improve charging connection, they also create a physical barrier that blocks reverse charging.

Since Apple uses a similar magnetic system, it may face the same problem. Unless Apple secretly developed its own solution when sharing MagSafe technology with the Wireless Power Consortium, it may also be unable to add this feature. There is still a slim chance that Apple has an exclusive fix, but the likelihood remains low.

For now, reverse wireless charging on the iPhone 17 series seems unlikely, and fans should keep their expectations realistic.
