Old IMEIs Removed as PTA Improves Mobile Network Oversight
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken a significant step to enhance the efficiency and management of the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS) by offloading old IMEI records of mobile devices.
The initiative aims to streamline overall system performance, benefiting both PTA and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).
The move is expected to improve DIRBS operations and ensure more effective system management, while also encouraging mobile users to register their devices by paying the applicable FBR duties and taxes. This step supports a compliant and sustainable digital environment.
According to PTA regulations, any unregistered mobile phone will remain active on the network for 60 days only. If the applicable FBR customs duties or taxes are not paid within this period, the device will be re-blocked.
PTA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a robust, transparent, and consumer-friendly mobile ecosystem in Pakistan.
