WhatsApp becomes most used social media in Pakistan: IPOR report
A new survey by the Institute for Public Opinion Research (IPOR) shows that WhatsApp is the most used social media platform in Pakistan. The report highlights that many people also believe online news without checking if it is true.
According to the survey, WhatsApp is leading in social media usage with 27%. It is followed by Facebook at 19%, YouTube at 18%, TikTok at 17%, and Instagram at 10%. The least used platform is X (previously Twitter), with only 2%.
The report also reveals that 65% of Pakistanis accept online news without verifying it, while only 22% bother to check. When it comes to fake news, 43% of people said Facebook is the biggest source.
Interestingly, 68% of people believe that social media has not influenced their views. However, one out of every five people admitted that their opinion has changed because of news they saw online.
This survey shows both the popularity of social media platforms and the challenges of fake news in Pakistan.
