Urgent WhatsApp warning for all Apple users – check your iPhone immediately

02 September, 2025 12:23

September 2025 – A serious warning has been issued to all iPhone owners using WhatsApp. Cybersecurity experts have discovered a new attack that could let hackers steal sensitive data from Apple devices.

What makes this threat especially dangerous is that it is a “zero-click” vulnerability. This means hackers don’t need you to click a link or download anything — your phone can be attacked silently without your knowledge.

WhatsApp and Apple Release Critical Updates

Apple has already pushed out a vital iOS security patch. WhatsApp has also rolled out an urgent update to protect users.

In a statement, WhatsApp confirmed: “We assess that this vulnerability, in combination with an OS-level vulnerability on Apple platforms (CVE-2025-43300), may have been exploited in a sophisticated attack against specific targeted users.”

The company says that installing the latest WhatsApp and iOS updates will keep devices safe.

Security Experts Issue Strong Warning

Although the attack was highly targeted and only affected a small number of people, experts are urging all iPhone users to update immediately.

Adam Boynton, Senior Security Strategy Manager at Jamf, explained: “WhatsApp and Apple devices are among the most widely used technologies in the world. That makes them prime targets. Attackers invest heavily in finding zero-click vulnerabilities because the payoff is huge.”

He also warned that exploits like this don’t just give hackers access once. They can:

  • Steal sensitive data

  • Harvest login details

  • Spy on conversations

  • Launch ransomware attacks

Android Users Should Stay Alert Too

While this specific bug only affects Apple iPhones, experts advise Android users to keep automatic updates enabled as well. That way, any future security fixes from WhatsApp or Google are installed quickly.

Boynton added: “The lesson here is clear: never underestimate the risk because a platform is popular and trusted. That popularity is exactly what makes it worth targeting.”
