PTA revised charges for Radio-Based Services
PTA revised charges for Radio-Based Services
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced new charges for Radio-Based Services (RBS), which will come into effect from July 1, 2025. The decision has been taken to match international standards and to manage the radio spectrum more efficiently.
According to PTA, the revised fee structure will apply to three main areas: Private Radio Networks (PRN), Flat Rate RBS Services, and DRS/Microwave Links. The charges will depend on factors like frequency, bandwidth, power, and location.
Main Changes in the Charges
Private Radio Networks (PRN): Annual fees will be calculated using a formula that includes base price, frequency factor, number of frequencies, bandwidth, output power, and location factor.
Flat Rate RBS Services:
Aircraft & Ship Mobile Stations: Rs. 100,000 (for 5 years)
Inmarsat: Rs. 250,000 (for 5 years)
Amateur: Rs. 2,000 (for 5 years)
DRS/Microwave Links: Rates will range from Rs. 24,000 per MHz (for up to 1 GHz) to Rs. 600 per MHz (for above 10 GHz).
PTA has also directed that license holders under flat-rate services will need to make advance payments for five years when applying for new licenses or renewing old ones. Existing license holders will also move to the new charges starting from July 2025.
The authority further said that RBS charges will be reviewed and revised every 3 to 5 years, in consultation with the telecom industry.
