How Many Monthly Users Does Instagram Have in 2025? Mark Zuckerberg Reveals Figures

25 September, 2025 13:51

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that Instagram’s monthly active users have reached 3 billion in 2025, marking a significant milestone and reaffirming the app’s position as one of the world’s most popular social media platforms.

The last update from Meta came in 2022, when Zuckerberg revealed that Instagram had surpassed 2 billion monthly active users.

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, acquired Instagram in 2012 for $1 billion. At the time, Instagram was primarily a photo-sharing app with no clear revenue model. Since then, the platform has experienced remarkable growth. Industry estimates suggest that Instagram will account for more than half of Meta’s ad revenue in the United States this year.

A major factor behind Instagram’s success is its Reels feature, introduced in 2020, which allows users to create engaging short-form videos. Reels has positioned Instagram as a strong competitor to rivals such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

TikTok, owned by Chinese tech company ByteDance, reportedly has over 1 billion monthly active users, according to a company spokesperson earlier this month.

With the social media landscape becoming increasingly competitive, Instagram’s continued innovations are crucial for maintaining its user base and driving revenue growth.
