WhatsApp adds AI themes, chat summaries, and new tools

WhatsApp has introduced a major update that mixes creativity, productivity, and personalization. The new features include AI chat themes, an in-app document scanner for Android, support for Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android, and an AI tool that summarizes long chats.

AI-Powered Chat Themes

Users can now design their own chat look using the new “Create with AI” option in Settings → Chats. Just type the style you want, and Meta AI will generate wallpapers and chat bubble colors to match. You can also refresh or edit the theme before applying it.

Better Photo Sharing

Instead of converting animated photos into still images, WhatsApp now keeps movement and sound for iOS Live Photos and Android Motion Photos. This helps users share memories more vividly.

New Tools for Android Users

Android users will now get an in-app document scanner. With this, they can scan, crop, enhance, and share documents directly in WhatsApp without extra apps.

AI Chat Summaries

A big highlight is the AI-powered message summaries. If you have many unread messages, the “Summarize Privately” option will give you a quick overview.

The summaries are processed securely, so Meta cannot read your chats, and no one else can see you used the feature. It’s starting in the US in English, with plans to expand.

WhatsApp is also testing new features like richer link previews, polls with images, and easier community creation tools.
