Millions of users are at serious risk as Microsoft prepares to end support for several popular Office apps on October 14. This move will affect those still using Office 2016 and Office 2019, leaving everyday tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook exposed to security threats.
Why This Is Dangerous
Once Microsoft ends support, it will stop releasing security updates and bug fixes. That means any new vulnerability can be exploited by hackers, putting users’ personal files, documents, and even bank details at risk.
Jeremy Carlson, Microsoft’s Director of Product Marketing, warned: “Continuing to use software after end of support can leave your devices vulnerable to potential security threats, productivity losses, and compliance issues.”
Which Apps Are Affected?
The end of support applies to Office 2016 and Office 2019, including 16 widely used programs such as:
Word
Excel
PowerPoint
Outlook
OneNote
Publisher
Access
Skype for Business
Windows 10 Users Also Impacted
This announcement comes alongside the discontinuation of Windows 10, creating a major shift for users who haven’t upgraded to Microsoft 365 or Office 2021.
Why You Must Upgrade Now
Without updates, cybercriminals can use bugs to break into your device. Once inside, they can steal your data, passwords, or financial information.
Microsoft strongly advises all users to move to newer supported versions to remain protected.
