Google Lets Users Change @gmail.com Email Address for the First Time

Gmail Users at Risk: Google Issues Urgent Password Change Alert
December 26, 2025 | California, USA: Google has introduced a new feature that allows Gmail users to change their @gmail.com email address, a functionality long requested by users of the popular service.
For many years, users with a Gmail account could not modify their email address. This often left people stuck with their original usernames, even if they wanted a change.
How the New Gmail Address Feature Works
With this update, users can now update their Gmail username while keeping the same inbox and account access.
After changing the email address, the original Gmail address will work as an alias. This means users can still receive emails on the old address and use it to log in to Google services.
Google has set some rules for the new feature:
Users cannot delete or modify the new address for 12 months.
A new Gmail address cannot be created within a year after making a change.
Each account can make up to three changes, allowing a maximum of four Gmail addresses linked to one account.
Limitations to Keep in Mind
Some older Google services, like Calendar events created before the change, may still display the old email address. However, users will continue to have the ability to send emails from their previous Gmail account.
Google says the update is rolling out gradually and will be available to all users in the coming months.
This change marks a significant update for Gmail, giving users more flexibility and control over their email addresses without losing access to their existing emails and services.
