Mobile phones may get cheaper in Pakistan in 2026 - Check details
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has asked the federal government to reduce heavy taxes on imported mobile phones, aiming to make smartphones more affordable for consumers in 2026.
A PTA official said that high duties are making it difficult for Pakistanis to buy modern mobile phones, which have become essential for education, business, digital banking, and online work.
The authority also pointed out that overseas Pakistanis face high costs when bringing phones into the country due to expensive registration and taxes at airports.
Reducing taxes, PTA expects, will relieve consumers, encourage legal imports, and reduce smuggling.
“Mobile phones are no longer luxury items; they are a necessity for everyday life,” said the official. Experts also note that smartphone prices in Pakistan are higher than in neighboring countries, creating challenges for buyers.
The government may consider lowering taxes in the upcoming federal budget 2026-27, which could make modern devices more accessible and support the vision of a Digital Pakistan.
