Honor’s new slim phone beats the iPhone Air at a lower price

20 January, 2026 14:19

Many slim smartphones coming out today make the iPhone Air look less impressive. While ultra-thin phones usually focus only on design and sacrifice battery life, cameras, and charging speed, the Honor Magic8 Pro Air takes a smarter approach.

Instead of choosing style over performance, Honor offers a slim phone with a bigger battery, better cameras, and faster charging, while still keeping the phone light and thin.

Design and Display

The Honor Magic8 Pro Air comes with a 6.31-inch AMOLED display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is very bright, reaching up to 6,000 nits, which makes it easy to use outdoors. This is brighter than the iPhone Air.

Even though the phone is only 6.1mm thick and weighs just 155 grams, it still includes stereo speakers, dual Nano SIM support, and eSIM. It also has strong IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance, giving extra protection without adding weight. A fingerprint scanner is built into the screen.

The phone is available in several colors, including black, purple, white, and orange.

Performance and Software

The device is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 chipset, which is a high-end processor. It can be paired with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, making it a true flagship phone. The Magic8 Pro Air runs MagicOS 10 based on Android 16.

This makes it more powerful than many ultra-thin phones that usually use weaker hardware to save power.

Camera Setup

Cameras are where the Magic8 Pro Air clearly beats the iPhone Air. Instead of a single rear camera, it offers a triple camera system.

The main camera is 50MP with optical image stabilization. There is also a 64MP periscope telephoto camera that offers real 3.2x optical zoom, not digital zoom. A 50MP ultra-wide camera with macro support adds more shooting options. On the front, the phone has a 50MP selfie camera.

Battery and Price

Despite its slim body, the phone packs a large 5,500 mAh battery. It supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, which means faster charging than the iPhone Air.

In China, the starting price is $717, while the top model costs $860. In comparison, the iPhone Air launched at $999 in the US.

Honor has not yet shared details about a global launch, but on paper, the Magic8 Pro Air offers more value than the iPhone Air while keeping a slim and premium design.
