PTA Announces Free Calls for Mobile Users to Toll-Free Numbers

PTA Issues Warning for Mobile Phone Users Across Pakistan
Islamabad — February 2026: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that all mobile users in Pakistan can now make free calls to toll-free numbers starting with 0800.
Earlier, this facility was available only to fixed-line users, while mobile phone users were charged for calling toll-free numbers. The new decision removes this difference and provides equal access to all users.
Mobile Users No Longer Charged for 0800 Numbers
According to PTA, mobile subscribers were previously required to pay call charges when dialing toll-free numbers. This issue caused widespread concern among users, especially those contacting customer support services.
After reviewing these complaints, the authority decided to take corrective action.
PTA Takes Notice of Public Complaints
In its official statement, PTA said it carefully examined the matter after receiving feedback from the public. The authority acknowledged that charging mobile users for toll-free calls was unfair and inconvenient.
PTA stated that the move aims to improve consumer convenience and protect user rights.
Stakeholders Consulted Before Decision
Before implementing the change, PTA held consultations with all major stakeholders. These included:
Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL)
National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC)
Local Loop operators
Cellular mobile operators
After detailed discussions, all parties agreed on making toll-free calls free for mobile users.
Free Toll-Free Calls for All Users
PTA confirmed that local loop (LL) toll-free numbers will now be accessible free of charge for both mobile and fixed-line users across Pakistan.
The authority said the decision will improve access to public services, helplines, and customer support platforms nationwide.
