Microsoft trials built-in network speed test in Windows 11 taskbar

Windows 11 is getting some useful new updates that could make daily tasks easier for users. One of the most helpful changes is a built-in internet speed test. Microsoft is testing this feature in a new update for Windows 11 Insiders in the Release Preview Channel.

After installing the update, users can simply right-click the network icon in the taskbar. A new speed test option will appear there. With just one click, it opens in the default browser and checks internet speed within seconds. This means users no longer need to visit third-party speed test websites.

The speed test works with Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and even cellular connections. Microsoft first started testing this feature last year, and now it seems closer to being available for everyone. For many people, this small tool could save time every day.

Microsoft is also improving camera controls in the Settings app. A new option allows users to adjust pan and tilt settings for supported cameras. The company has not yet shared which camera models will support this feature, but it shows that Windows 11 is getting better camera integration.

There are a few other small updates too. Microsoft is adding new emojis to the system. A full-page Widget settings menu is also being introduced, making it easier to customize widgets. Another useful feature allows users to set .webp files as their desktop wallpaper, giving them more image format options.

The update is currently rolling out for Windows 11 version 24H2 (Build 26100) and version 25H2 (Build 26200) through the Release Preview Channel. Instead of big design changes, these updates focus on making everyday tasks simpler and faster.
