Apple iPhone Fold: Expected launch date, price, and key features

21 February, 2026 20:49

Apple has been exploring foldable phones for years, and now it looks like the company may finally launch one in 2026. The device, widely called the iPhone Fold, has grabbed attention, though Apple has not officially confirmed the name.

Book-Style Design
The iPhone Fold is expected to use a book-style fold, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. This means it opens like a book rather than folding vertically like the Galaxy Z Flip. Reports suggest the phone will be about 9–9.5 mm thick when folded and slim down to around 4.5–4.8 mm when opened. Apple may also place volume buttons on the top edge, with the power button and camera controls on the right edge, and the camera bump could resemble the iPhone Air design.

Two Screens, Tablet-Like Inside
The phone will likely have a 5.5-inch outer display for normal phone use and a 7.8-inch inner display that feels closer to a small tablet. The inner screen may have a resolution of 2,713 x 1,920, while the outer screen could use 2,088 x 1,422. Apple is reportedly testing a strong display layer using ultra-thin glass and a transparent polyimide film.

No Visible Crease
Apple aims to solve the crease problem common in foldable phones. A metal plate inside the screen spreads stress during bending, and liquid metal in the hinge improves durability. Reports suggest the iPhone Fold could be the first foldable phone with no visible crease.

Titanium Body and Strong Hinge
Durability is a key focus. The device may use a titanium chassis and a hinge made of titanium and stainless steel. This frame will prevent bending while keeping the phone lightweight and strong.

Four Cameras and Touch ID
The iPhone Fold may have four cameras: one front-facing, one for the inner display, and two rear cameras, both 48MP. The inner display could use an under-screen camera, and the outer screen may have a punch-hole camera. Apple may skip Face ID and return to Touch ID in the side button.

C2 Modem and No SIM Slot
The phone is expected to use Apple’s second-generation C2 modem, possibly supporting mmWave in the U.S. The physical SIM slot may be removed, making the phone fully digital.

Bigger Battery and Efficiency
Reports say the iPhone Fold will have the largest battery ever in an iPhone, helped by smaller internal components and high-density battery cells. Combined with the efficient C2 modem, users could see faster speeds and longer battery life.

High Price
The phone is expected to be very expensive, with U.S. prices rumored between $2,000 and $2,500, making it the priciest iPhone yet.

Launch Timeline
Apple may start mass production in the second half of 2026, with a possible launch in the fall. Some sources suggest a delay to 2027 if final design elements are not ready.

If Apple delivers on durability and performance, the iPhone Fold could change the premium smartphone market and finally bring the company into the foldable phone space.
