LinkedIn Tests AI Tool to Conduct First Round Job Interviews
March 16, 2026: LinkedIn is testing a new feature that allows artificial intelligence to conduct the first round of job interviews for employers.
The tool is currently being tested with users of LinkedIn Hiring Pro. It allows recruiters to invite up to 40 applicants to complete an initial screening interview that is conducted entirely by an AI system.
The AI interviewer can run an audio or video interview with candidates. The questions are generated based on the job’s qualifications and requirements.
Before the interview begins, the system suggests interview questions and ideal answers. Recruiters can review these suggestions and edit them if needed before sending interview invitations to candidates.
Once the candidate completes the interview, the recruiter receives a full transcript of the conversation, along with the audio or video recording. The system also creates an AI-generated summary and provides a five-point rating. This score shows how closely the candidate’s answers match the ideal responses defined by the recruiter.
LinkedIn says the final hiring decision will still be made by humans. Recruiters keep full control over the evaluation process and candidate selection.
Applicants who take part in these interviews can also request access to their ratings, transcripts, or recordings. They must contact the hiring manager to receive this information.
However, the feature has raised privacy concerns. LinkedIn has advised candidates to avoid sharing sensitive personal information during AI interviews. This includes health data or disability-related details.
According to LinkedIn, such information may be processed by the platform on behalf of the recruiter. It will then be shared only with the hiring company. The employer decides the legal basis for how this information is handled.
Experts say many large companies already use AI screening tools to filter job applications before a recruiter reviews them. LinkedIn’s new feature simply brings this capability directly into the platform.
The move shows how AI is becoming more involved in the hiring process. For recruiters handling hundreds of applications, the system can save time and reduce manual work.
For job seekers, however, speaking to an AI interviewer before talking to a human recruiter may feel unusual. Still, technology companies believe automation can help speed up hiring decisions.
LinkedIn has already added AI tools across its platform. These include AI profile summaries, automated job post suggestions, and AI-assisted cover letters. The new interview system takes this trend further by allowing AI to help determine which candidates move forward in the hiring process.
