OpenAI Launches TikTok-Style App ‘Sora’ with AI Video Creation Features
March 25, 2026: OpenAI has officially introduced a new social media app called Sora, alongside its latest AI model Sora 2, aiming to bring AI-generated short videos into mainstream social platforms. The rollout has started as an invite-only release on iOS, with plans to expand gradually across the United States and Canada.
The Sora app works like a TikTok-style platform, offering a vertical feed of short 10-second videos. These clips are created using Sora 2 and can include synced audio. Users can either generate new videos using text prompts or remix existing content shared by others on the platform.
One of the most talked-about features is “Cameo.” This tool allows users to insert their own face or voice into AI-generated videos. After completing a quick identity verification and uploading a sample, users can control how their likeness is used. They can allow or block others from using it and even remove their presence from any video.
OpenAI says that Sora 2 has improved a lot in terms of realism. The company claims the model better follows real-world physics, making movements and scenes look more natural. It also improves lip-syncing and reduces common AI errors like distorted visuals or disappearing objects. However, experts note that the system may still face issues in complex scenes.
The company has also taken a different approach to copyright. Instead of blocking copyrighted material by default, OpenAI is using an opt-out system. This means creators and companies must request removal if they don’t want their content used. Major studios like Disney have already opted out, showing early concerns from the entertainment industry.
This launch marks a major step by OpenAI into the social media space, combining artificial intelligence with user-generated content. Analysts believe it could change how people create and share videos online, but it also raises questions about copyright, safety, and content control.
