Pakistan Launches Petrol Subsidy App; Bikes and Rickshaws to Get 20 Liters per Month

ISLAMABAD – March 27, 2026: The federal government of Pakistan is set to introduce a petrol subsidy program for low-income citizens who own motorcycles or three-wheeler vehicles. This comes as the country faces a continuing energy crisis.

The Ministry of Information Technology has developed a mobile app to manage the subsidy distribution. The app is currently in the testing phase and will ensure that eligible users receive subsidized fuel efficiently.

Under the proposed program, two- and three-wheeler vehicles will be allocated a monthly petrol quota of up to 20 liters per vehicle. Officials said vehicles up to 800cc might also be included, but a final decision on this has not yet been made.

To implement the plan, around 12,000 petrol pumps across the country will be equipped with dedicated nozzles. Each station will also receive two mobile devices to operate the app for fuel distribution. This system is designed to improve transparency and reduce misuse of subsidized petrol.

Citizens eligible for the program will need to download the mobile app. They must register by providing their vehicle registration number and national identity card number. The app will assign petrol quotas based on individual requirements and overall fuel availability.

Government officials stated that this initiative aims to provide relief to low-income vehicle owners while ensuring fair distribution of petroleum resources. Higher global fuel prices will largely be passed on to other consumers not eligible for the subsidy.

The move is expected to benefit thousands of motorcycle and rickshaw owners nationwide, giving them relief amid rising fuel costs. The government has emphasized that the program will be monitored carefully to avoid misuse and maintain accountability.
