New research shows Chinese language overtaking English in global tech race

A new study from the world of artificial intelligence and advanced engineering has revealed an unexpected finding: the Chinese language may be more effective than English when guiding AI systems in complex aircraft design tasks.

According to the research, using Chinese instructions helped AI models perform better in designing modern aircraft wings and understanding difficult engineering concepts compared to English prompts.

The study, conducted by Tsinghua University in Beijing, showed mixed early results but pointed toward an interesting trend in how language affects AI performance in technical fields.

Researchers created an advanced AI system and gave it an engineering task: redesigning aircraft wings to reduce air resistance. The system was tested using instructions in both Chinese and English.

Before deeper training and optimization, the AI performed slightly better when guided in Chinese. Experts believe this is because Chinese language structure can express complex engineering ideas in fewer and more direct words.

However, after additional training and manual learning, both language systems eventually reached the same level of performance and successfully achieved the goal of reducing air resistance.

The study also noted that English remains the dominant language in global AI development and scientific research, giving it a wider knowledge base. At the same time, Chinese appears to integrate more naturally with engineering environments and technical applications.

China currently produces one of the largest numbers of engineers and scientists in the world, with significantly more engineering graduates each year compared to many other countries. Researchers suggest this could play an important role in future technological competition, as more engineers use native-language AI tools in their work.
