Here’s Expected PTA Tax on iPhone 17 Series – Check Details

22 September, 2025 13:53

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released the expected tax amounts for registering the newly launched Apple iPhone 17 series in the country. The tax slabs have been divided into two categories — one applicable on registration through a passport and the other via CNIC, with the latter carrying higher charges.

The iPhone 17 lineup includes four models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. As in previous years, the tax differential remains significant, making CNIC-based registrations more costly.

For many smartphone buyers in Pakistan, PTA’s tax updates are critical since they directly impact the overall price of purchasing the latest iPhones. Consumers have repeatedly voiced concerns that these heavy taxes push the devices out of reach for average users.

According to industry experts, the taxes are intended to regulate the smartphone market, curb smuggling, and ensure the usage of officially imported devices. However, the rising costs are widely viewed as a hurdle for individuals looking to upgrade to the latest technology.

Despite high registration fees, Apple’s iPhone series continues to enjoy strong demand in Pakistan, particularly among tech-savvy users and professionals. While the launch of the iPhone 17 has generated excitement, affordability remains a major challenge.

Expected PTA Tax Rates for iPhone 17 Models (PKR):

  • iPhone 17: Passport – 129,000 | CNIC – 155,000
  • iPhone 17 Air: Passport – 152,000 | CNIC – 176,000
  • iPhone 17 Pro: Passport – 173,000 | CNIC – 211,000
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: Passport – 183,000 | CNIC – 214,000
