Peshawar ;At least seven people, including three children, were injured in a bomb blast targeting police officers on Peshawar’s Warsak Road on Tuesday, police and hospital officials said.

Police said the explosion was caused by an explosive device detonation. The injured were taken to Lady Reading Hospital, where two children are said to be in a critical condition. A hospital spokesperson said the children were aged between 7 and 10.

SSP Operations Kashif Aftab Abbasi said a mobile vehicle of Macnigate Police Station was on routine patrol when the bomb exploded. “As soon as the police cellphone passed, there was an explosion three seconds later. The militants wanted to target the police vehicle,” he said in an interview. Police sources said no arrests have been made so far, but the network involved will soon make arrests. Abbasi added that surveillance camera footage of the explosion was under investigation.

Police Commissioner Arshad Khan, who was present at the incident, told the media that the explosion occurred around 9:10 a.m. and that the explosives were planted on the side of the road. The explosives used in the explosion weighed 4 kilograms and were hidden inside cement blocks on the side of the road. Khan added that police have launched a search operation in the surrounding areas.

“There is also an element of extortion in the explosion.” “It would be too early to say who was the target,” SP Arshad Khan said during a conversation with reporters. Following the explosion, police and rescue teams from emergency number 1122 rushed to the incident site in Peshawar’s Bab Garhi area. Rescue workers told Geo News that the force of the explosion shattered the windows of two vehicles and a nearby building. Metropolitan Mayor Zubair Ali told reporters that the explosion near the school was an attempt to disrupt peace and order.
