Toni Kroos in a heartwarming gesture has revealed Federico Valverde as his successor for the vacant number 8 shirt, as the German mid-fielder retires from club football.

Kroos brought curtains down to his illustrious career at Real Madrid by winning his sixth Champions League title on Saturday.

During Real Madrid’s trophy celebration, Kroos formally announced Valverde as his successor to iconic number 8 shirt.

“At this moment my No.8 is available…it’s a pleasure to give it to this guy [Valverde],” Kroos told a charged crowed in Madrid.

“I love number 15, my dream at Real Madrid started with this number… but yes, I will change it in two months. Let’s say that chapter (of wearing 15) ended quite well!” Valverde had said before the UCL final.

At Read Madrid, Kroos’ ability to dictate play and pass with precision helped the club win five UEFA Champions League titles in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, and 2024, as well as four La Liga titles in 2017, 2020, 2022, and 2024.

During his 10-year stint at the club, he scored 28 goals and 99 assists in all competitions, further solidifying his status as one of the game’s elite playmakers.
