Half-Life 3 Could Be Coming Soon After 18-Year

After nearly two decades of anticipation, it appears that Half-Life 3 could finally be moving toward a potential release, according to credible insiders. Rumors around Valve’s long-awaited sequel have persisted since 2007’s Half-Life 2: Episode Two, but in the past year, speculation has intensified.

In 2024, dataminers unearthed files in Valve titles like Deadlock and Dota 2, referring to a mysterious project codenamed “HLX.” Several industry insiders have connected these files to Half-Life 3, though Valve has yet to confirm the project publicly.

One of the most vocal sources, YouTuber and Valve insider Tyler McVicker, claims HLX is in a highly advanced state of development. During a livestream Q&A, McVicker stated that the game is “playable end-to-end” and is currently undergoing “polishing” at Valve. Unlike Half-Life: Alyx, which was designed for VR, McVicker emphasizes that HLX is not a virtual reality title.

He added, “This is the furthest [HLX] has ever been. Period. It’s likely content-locked or at least mechanic-locked at this point.”

McVicker further speculated that Half-Life 3 could be announced during this summer’s gaming events—possibly Summer Game Fest on June 6—and might even release before the year ends, although he stressed this prediction is based on speculation, not confirmation.

Valve has previously cancelled several iterations of Half-Life 3, so while the signs are promising, fans remain cautiously hopeful that this time the iconic franchise will finally continue.
