BISP to Launch Direct Payment System for Women Beneficiaries

08 August, 2025 11:18

The government has announced a major reform in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), aiming to make aid delivery more secure and transparent. Starting August 14, 2025, special bank accounts will be opened for all eligible women in major urban centers of Pakistan, enabling financial support to be deposited directly into their personal accounts.

Under the new “direct payment receipt” system—براہ راست پیمنٹ ریسیو in Urdu—BISP will transfer funds without involving intermediaries, ensuring women receive the full amount without deductions or delays. The pilot phase will begin in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, and Peshawar, with nationwide expansion planned afterward.

According to BISP, the initiative will empower women to manage their own finances, eliminate the role of middlemen, and reduce payment fraud. Each beneficiary’s account will be opened automatically in collaboration with government and private banks, requiring no separate bank visit. Women will be notified via SMS or call about their account details and can withdraw funds at ATMs or bank branches.

Officials say this system will also promote women’s financial inclusion and set new standards for welfare program transparency in Pakistan. Beneficiaries are advised to keep their CNIC updated, respond only to official messages, and safeguard their ATM PINs to ensure smooth transactions.
