Turk NGO buys 2 ships to deliver aid to Gaza

The Turkish aid organization Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) bought two ships to deliver aid to the occupied Palestinian territory of Gaza.

According to a foreign news agency, IHH Chairman Bulunt Yildirim inspected the ships purchased for the project of ‘International Freedom Flotilla’ to deliver aid to Gaza.

In his statement, the IHH chairman said that one of the two ships purchased for the relief mission, Anadolu, has the capacity to carry 5,500 tons of goods.

It should be noted that IHH is the NGO on whose behalf the Mavi Marmara, an aid ship sent to break the blockade of Gaza, was attacked by Israeli forces in 2010.

As a result of this attack, 10 aid workers on board were killed. After this attack, there was a diplomatic crisis between Israel and Turkiye.

The Anadolu will be loaded with aid items while the other vessel will carry humanitarian personnel including doctors to Gaza.
It was not known when the two vessels would leave for Gaza or where or how they would deliver aid once there. Turkiye has so far dispatched its aid to Gaza through neighbouring Egypt.
