PTI’s Sher Afzal Marwat arrested outside Lahore High Court

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat was arrested outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) today.

Sher Afzal Marwat while leaving from lawyers convention at LHC faced heavy contingent of police which took him into custody. It is believed that the PTI leader was arrested under 3-MPO and was being taken to the Mozang police station. Reportedly an order for detaining Sher Afzal Marwat for 30 days had been issued.

The PTI termed Marwat’s arrest shows that those in power were “worried”. In a post on X the PTI stated, “the abduction of lawyers from the premises of LHC was “absolutely shameful” and “represents once again the respect for courts in the eyes of those in power.”

In another post, it said the “caretaker government is crossing all limits of fascism. LHC judges must ensure safe recovery of Sher Afzal Marwat immediately, this is unacceptable.”

PTI Chairman Gohar Khan, while speaking to media persons outside the Election Commission of Pakistan in Islamabad, also condemned Marwat’s arrest. He said such actions against the party would affect free and fair elections in the country.

Last week, the PTI leader alleged an attempted “abduction” by K-P police while en route to Gulabad near Chakdara for a party convention scheduled in Bajaur.
