Punjab Assembly’s maiden session begins after over 2-hr delay
Punjab Assembly’s maiden session has started after a delay of over two hours. These session was earlier scheduled to start at 10 am.
PML-N Senior-Vice President and Chief Organizer, who is nominated as chief minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif is present in the Punjab Assembly.
Members of PML-N and Sunni Ittehad Council are raising slogans against each other.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan is presiding over the maiden session.
A heavy contingent of police have been deployed outside the assembly in view of possible PTI protests.
In the first session of the newly elected house, Speaker Provincial Assembly Sibtain Khan will administer oath to the newly elected members.
Newly elected members have arrived to participate in the session. Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Chief Minister will be elected in the session of Punjab Assembly.
According to the sources, all PTI members have also decided to attend the meeting.
On the other hand, Maryam Nawaz- CM designate had chaired a meeting of the newly elected members of the PML-N in the lobby of the Assembly in the morning.
Newly elected members of Sunni Ittehad Council are also participate in today’s session. PTI’s nominated Chief Minister Aslam Iqbal is also attending the session.
A heavy contingent of police have been deployed outside the Punjab Assembly in view of possible PTI protests.
DIG Operations Ali Nasir Rizvi is also present. Vans with prisoners and water cannons are brought outside the assembly.
Police have also taken position at all the gates of the assembly.
