The National Assembly today approved the resolution to extend seven ordinances amid protest by Sunni Ittehad Council members.

The National Assembly session was held under the chairmanship of the Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq in which the members of the Sunni Ittehad Council stood on their seats, protested and tore up the papers.

The Speaker expressed his anger at behaviour of the Sunni Ittehad Council members and warned the opposition of disciplinary action.

Meanwhile, the opposition leader Omar Ayub said that these ordinances are meant to destroy Pakistan, rejecting the resolution to extend the ordinances.

Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar, who presented the resolution, said that the opposition should read the ordinance before speaking. Yesterday, the Peshawar High Court sent them home saying that they have no rights and should not always stand behind the prisoner instead of the country.

On this occasion, Pakistan People’s Party leader Khursheed Shah said that he agrees with the opposition as the governments do not run on ordinances. It should be checked when the most ordinances were presented during the last governments.

On the other hand, the resolution condemning the Israeli brutality in Gaza was unanimously approved in the National Assembly and the government was demanded to urge the international community for a ceasefire in Gaza.
