SBP issues statement on fresh currency notes for Eidul fitr

18 March, 2025 17:30

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced on Tuesday that it has issued Rs27 billion in fresh currency notes of various denominations to 17,000 branches of commercial banks for distribution to the public, continuing its traditional practice ahead of Eidul Fitr.

In response to reports suggesting that the SBP would not release fresh banknotes for this Eid, the central bank clarified that it is maintaining its longstanding practice of providing new notes to commercial banks during the festive period.

According to a handout from the SBP, the bank has worked closely with the country’s commercial banks to ensure that fresh currency notes are made widely available.

This includes leveraging the extensive nationwide network of bank branches to facilitate public access to these notes.

The SBP also confirmed that the ATM networks of commercial banks will be stocked with good-quality banknotes to ensure uninterrupted service during the holiday season.

In addition, the SBP has deployed Cash Monitoring teams to conduct onsite inspections of commercial bank branches to ensure the efficient and accurate distribution of fresh banknotes.

The first day of Eid ul Fitr is expected to fall on March 31, 2025.
