Blocking Pakistan’s Water Would Be Act of War: Bilawal Warns India

09 June, 2025 15:41

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari warned that any attempt by India to block Pakistan’s water supply would be considered “an act of war.”

In an interview with an international media outlet during his visit to the United Kingdom, he underscored that India cannot unilaterally revoke the Indus Waters Treaty, a long-standing water-sharing agreement between the two countries.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to resolving all outstanding disputes with India, particularly the Kashmir issue, through dialogue.

Bilawal stated, “We want talks with India on all issues, including Kashmir, as every problem’s solution begins with Kashmir.”

“Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state,” he said, emphasising that the country prefers diplomacy and dialogue over aggression.

The remarks come following a diplomatic visit to the United States, where Bilawal led a Pakistani delegation to participate in United Nations sessions and held high-level meetings with global leaders and members of the US Congress. The delegation’s agenda focused on the Kashmir dispute and the broader need for peace and stability in South Asia.

Now in the UK, the delegation continues its efforts to draw international attention to the issue. Delegation member Faisal Subzwari highlighted Pakistan’s initiatives at the UN and warned against India’s aggressive stance, stating that escalating tensions between two nuclear-armed nations could have dire global consequences.

Senior political figures Sherry Rehman and Khurram Dastgir Khan echoed the call for renewed communication channels with India but criticised New Delhi’s continued reluctance to engage in constructive dialogue.

Bushra Anjum Butt added that the delegation received considerable support and acknowledgment during their meetings in Washington, further solidifying Pakistan’s diplomatic position.
