A tragic Air India plane crash on 12 June 2025 in Ahmedabad has left over 270 people dead, including passengers, crew members, and people living near the crash site. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was heading to London Gatwick. Only one passenger, British national Vishwashkumar Ramesh, survived.
The flight had 242 people on board. The airline said the passengers included 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian.

👨👩👧👦 Families Lost
Dr Prateek Joshi, a radiologist from Derby, UK, died with his wife Komi and three young children. Their community described them as joyful and kind.
The Girish family from London – Hemaxi, her husband Girish, and their two kids – also died.
Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa, and their daughter Sara from Gloucester were among the victims.
👫 Couples and Individuals
Hardik Avaiya and Vibhooti Patel, a couple from Leicester celebrating their engagement, died together.
Sisters Dhir and Heer Baxi from London were returning after visiting their grandmother.
Ashok and Shobhana Patel, grandparents from Kent, were returning to their family.
Ketan Shah, a shop owner from Hampshire, called his wife just before takeoff. He is survived by her and two children.
✈️ Crew Members
Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a veteran pilot with 8,200 flying hours, was months from retirement.
First Officer Clive Kundar, co-pilot, had logged over 1,100 hours.
Crew members like Saineeta Chakravarti, Maithili Patil, Manisha Thapa, and Lamnunthem Singson were remembered for their love of flying.

Raxa Modha and her grandson Rudra, from Northamptonshire, were flying back for a family memorial.
Fiongal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek, a couple running a wellness center in London, had shared a joyful Instagram story before the flight.
Vijay Rupani, former chief minister of Gujarat, was also among those killed.
This heartbreaking crash has left dozens of families in deep grief, both in India and the UK. Community leaders, friends, and neighbors continue to hold vigils and remembrance events for the lost souls.
