Devastating Flood Hits Korphay Village in Braldo Valley, GB
A devastating flood has struck Korphay, a remote village nestled in the Braldo Valley of Shigar, Gilgit-Baltistan, causing widespread destruction to land, crops, and homes. The flood, triggered by heavy rainfall and glacial runoff, swept through the area with alarming force, damaging agricultural fields, livestock shelters, trees and riverbanks.
The village, home to small-scale farmers who rely solely on seasonal crops and livestock, has been left in a state of despair. Many families have lost their only source of livelihood, as the floodwaters wiped out wheat, barley, and vegetable fields just before harvest season. Animal sheds and storage units have been swept away, further deepening the crisis for the local population.
Residents report that no timely warning was issued, and they struggled through the night to save their families and what little belongings they could carry. With access roads blocked and communication disrupted, the village remains largely cut off from the rest of the district.
Local authorities and disaster response teams are being urged to take swift action. Residents are calling on the government and NGOs for urgent relief, including food, shelter, and rehabilitation support, as recovery in such remote mountainous terrain remains a daunting challenge.
