Braldo Road Collapse After Landslide Cuts Tourist Route Kaiwa to K2

12 August, 2025 20:30

Askole- Residents and community leaders of Braldo have raised an urgent call for immediate action to address recent landslides and blockages on Braldo Kaiwa/Mothran Road, a crucial artery for local transportation, international tourism, and supply routes. The road’s current condition is severely disrupting the movement of people and essential goods in the region.

Local man Muhammad Ali Shigri Tastay says two places on the road are blocked by landslides. No one from the Shigar government or leaders has fixed the problem yet. This is not the fisrt time it is happened, this has been happening for years, but there is no strong action from officials. This road connects Askole, the country’s largest glaciers, and K2 mountain. Roads are very important for tourists and local money.

The road goes through high mountains. The road is narrow and dangerous. No strong fences on edges. Landslides, falling rocks, and broken parts make travel slow and risky. A bridge called Hoto Bridge broke recently. Many people now must walk hours with goods. The bridge is fixed for walking, but no cars are allowed. This makes life hard for people and visitors.

Tourists who come for climbing and photos face danger on the road. Cars slip on loose stones. Sometimes roadblocks cause long waits. Tourists worry about safety. This hurts Pakistan’s name for adventure travel.

For local people, the road is the only way to schools, markets, and hospitals. Pakistan law says every person has the right to safe travel and equal chances. Mountain people need the same roads as city people. Without good roads, people live with more risks and fewer chances.

Experts say the solution is to build a strong road that works all year. Safe roads will bring more tourists. More tourists mean more money for local people and the country. Other countries like Saudi Arabia want to grow tourism soon. Pakistan should make Gilgit-Baltistan a top place for mountain tourists. This will save lives and help the economy.
