Prince William Hires Crisis Management Expert

Prince William Hires Crisis Management Expert
At Kensington Palace, the royal household has expanded by hiring a crisis management expert directly from the Edelman communications firm.
According to The Daily Mail, Liza Ravenscroft has been brought on as a crisis management expert. She previously worked at Edelman, where she served as a senior director for its UK Crisis & Risk team. Her CV notes that she “works arm-in-arm with big names facing their toughest times.”
Ravenscroft was referred by Julian Payne from Prince William’s office. Payne, a former communications secretary to the King and Queen, is now CEO of Edelman. He worked with Charles and Camilla for five years and currently serves as a trustee of The King’s Foundation.
PR expert Mayah Riaz says the move should be seen as strategic rather than defensive. “Speaking as someone who works closely with high-profile public figures on crisis management, this is a calculated and proactive move, not a reaction to panic,” she explains. “At this level of public scrutiny, the biggest reputational mistakes usually come from being unprepared, not from the crisis itself.”
With Prince Harry expected to return to the UK, speculation about family dynamics is likely to intensify—something Mayah believes would be impossible for someone at William’s level to ignore.
“The timing is telling,” she adds. “William sits at the centre of a very complex media ecosystem, with ongoing public fascination around his relationship with Harry. With Harry’s visit approaching, it makes sense to have an expert in place who can anticipate media angles, manage briefing strategy, and neutralize misinterpretation before it gains traction.”
It is no secret that Prince William and his extended family have faced some of their most challenging times in recent years, including the cancer diagnoses of Princess Kate and King Charles, the death of the late Queen, and ongoing criticism of the monarchy by Prince Harry and Meghan.
Mayah further explains: “What he may be pre-empting is not a single event, but the risk of narrative drift. Awkward moments, exaggerated interactions, or unnamed sources can quickly snowball into damaging stories. A crisis manager helps ensure that silence, statements, and strategy are all intentional rather than reactive.”
Ms. Ravenscroft’s LinkedIn profile highlights her expertise and daily responsibilities: “I deal with high-profile issues—ranging from boycott campaigns and sexual misconduct claims to major safety, geopolitical, and ethical risks—focusing on human-centered responses aimed at the key audiences.”
