NCCIA Raid Uncovers Scam Call Centre in Karachi’s Defence, Four Suspects Arrested

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) carried out a raid on a call centre operating in Karachi’s Defence area and arrested four suspects involved in an alleged cyber fraud operation.

According to officials, authorities recovered 14 laptops, 10 mobile phones, and banking data belonging to thousands of foreign nationals during the operation. Investigators also confiscated digital devices and specialized software believed to have been used in fraudulent activities. “Digital equipment and software being used for forgery and cheating have also been seized,” according to officials.

NCCIA officials said that during the inspection of the premises, it became evident that an organized scam call centre was being run from the building. “Several people were working as fake calling agents of foreign banks,” officials said.

Authorities stated that the operation specifically targeted foreign citizens through fraudulent calls. According to investigators, the suspects posed as representatives of international banks to obtain confidential banking details from victims. “The agents were collecting secret banking details by calling from fake numbers”.

Officials added that the suspects were collecting sensitive personal information from victims, including social security numbers, phone numbers, dates of birth, and security codes.

“The collected data was being allegedly used for unauthorized financial benefits from the merchants accounts,” according to officials.

Police said a case has been registered against five individuals in connection with the incident. “Four accused have been arrested and further investigation of the case and legal action being taken.”

NCCIA further stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the network.

The seized digital equipment has been sent for technical examination, while investigators continue to probe the case.
