US beat Canada in T20 WC opener

The US easily defeated Canada by 7 wickets in the opening match of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

In the Group A match played in Dallas, US captain Monanik Patel won the toss and invited Canada to bat first.

Canada scored 194 runs for 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs while batting brilliantly Navneet Dhaliwal made 61 runs. Apart from this, Nicholas Curtin hit 51, Irwin Johnson 23, Dilpreet Bajwa 11 while Shreyas Mowa remained unbeaten with 32 runs.

Ali Khan, Harmeet Singh and Corey Anderson took one wicket each for the US.

Chasing the target, US’s first wicket fell for zero and the host team had to bear the second loss for 42 runs, but for the third wicket, a wonderful partnership of 131 runs was built between Andres Goss and Aaron Jones. Goss was dismissed for 65 runs off 46 balls but Jones continued his batting and scored an unbeaten innings of 94 runs off 40 balls with the help of 10 sixes and four boundries  to lead his team to victory.

Kaleem Sana, Nikhil Dutta and Dillon Hilliger took one wicket each, while Aaron Jones was declared the man of the match for his brilliant batting.

Earlier, US captain Monanik Patel said that the first fielding decision is made after seeing the wicket.

There was a brief opening ceremony of the ICC T20I World Cup in which the national anthems were played along with the flags of Canada and the United States and fireworks were also displayed at the ground.

It should be noted that 20 teams are in action in the ICC T20I World Cup in America and West Indies, a total of 55 matches will be played at 9 venues.

Pakistan will play its first match in the event against the host US on June 6. Pakistan and India will play on June 9.
