The United States Central Command (Centcom) on Saturday claimed for shooting down four drones headed towards a US destroyer in the southern Red Sea, launched from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

The US Naval Forces Central Command responded to distress calls from a Norwegian-flagged oil tanker and an Indian-flagged crude oil tanker that came under attack. The Houthis also fired two anti-ship ballistic missiles into international shipping lanes in the Southern Red Sea but no vessels were hit in the attacks.

“These attacks represent the 14th and 15th attacks on commercial shipping by Houthi militants since October 17,” CENTCOM said in a post on X.The Houthis also fired two anti-ship ballistic missiles into international shipping lanes in the Southern Red Sea but no vessels were hit in the attacks.

The developments in Bab al-Mandeb Strait (off the coast of Yemen) and indian Ocean made clear that Gaza is not only a regional war.

Since the start of the war in Gaza, the Houthis who control large parts of Yemen, have waged an escalating campaign of drone and missile attacks on commercial shipping travelling to Israel, showing support for Palestinians facing Israeli bombardment.

The Houthis say they will halt their attacks only if Israel’s “crimes in Gaza stop” adding, their operations will not cease even if the US mobilises “the entire world”.

US accused Iran of being “deeply involved” in planning operations against commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

Iran acknowledges supporting the Houthis politically but denied arming the group, adding the rebel group (Houthis)has its “own tools” and acts “in accordance with its own decisions and capabilities”.
