NDMA Issues Red Alert: Heavy Rain, Hailstorms & Landslide Risks Loom Across Pakistan
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urgent weather alert as widespread heavy rainfall continues to impact Islamabad and adjacent regions. According to the latest weather forecast, rain is expected to persist today and into tomorrow, intensifying the risk of flash floods, hailstorms, and landslides in multiple districts across the country.
Islamabad & Rawalpindi on High Alert for Hailstorms
Hailstorm warnings have been raised for Islamabad and Rawalpindi, where waterlogging has already caused disruption in several urban sectors. Surrounding districts including Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, and Jhelum are also expected to experience significant hail activity, prompting authorities to urge the public to remain indoors and restrict non-essential movement.
Severe Weather Forecast for Punjab & KPK
The NDMA’s regional alert extends across a large part of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Cities such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khushab, and Mianwali are under active monitoring for storm development. Meanwhile, Narowal, Sahiwal, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura have also been flagged for precautionary measures. Citizens are strongly encouraged to prepare emergency supplies and follow official updates.
Murree Faces High Landslide Risk
Increased rainfall across upper regions has dramatically raised the potential for landslides in Murree. NDMA has specifically warned travelers and residents of the likelihood of rain and snow-triggered landslides or avalanches in hilly terrains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the next 48 hours. Tourists planning trips to Murree or northern valleys are advised to reconsider travel plans during this critical period.
Western Weather System Intensifies
This extended bout of heavy rain in Islamabad and beyond is part of a western weather system currently influencing the region. The system is expected to bring further thunderstorms and hail across Punjab and KP, as per the updated April 2025 weather forecast.
