Southeast Australia Face Heavy Rainfall, Thunderstorms: Here’s When It Will End

29 April, 2025 12:43

Millions of residents of the southeast Australia are preparing for colder mornings, heavy rainfall, and potential thunderstorms over the next few days.

Weather conditions across much of Australia will be cooler than usual this week, with Weatherzone forecasting sub-zero minimum temperatures in at least four states and territories. Elevated regions of Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales (NSW), and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) are expected to experience frosty conditions, particularly from Wednesday to Saturday.

The Bureau of Meteorology has also warned of possible thunderstorms and showers in parts of NSW and the ACT. Meteorologist Dean Narramore stated that a high-pressure system would dominate the weather across the country, bringing showers to parts of South Australia, Victoria, NSW, and Tasmania. The system, located off the southeast coast, is expected to bring heavy rainfall to coastal areas.

Although the rain is not expected to cause widespread flooding, minor warnings have been issued for NSW, and moderate warnings have been issued for parts of Queensland. Winds will also increase along the NSW coast, with large waves predicted for Wednesday and Thursday, before moving into Southeast Queensland on Friday. Hazardous surf warnings are in place for the Hunter Coast on Wednesday, and these will extend to the Macquarie Coast, Sydney Coast, and Illawarra Coast by Thursday.

Strong winds and large waves are also forecast for several coastal areas, including Sydney’s enclosed waters, Byron Coast, Coffs Coast, and others along the NSW and Queensland coasts.
