PMD Predicts Rain in Islamabad, Punjab as Heatwave Set to End

30 April, 2025 11:29

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting light to moderate rain in Islamabad starting from May 1 through May 4, 2025. This forecast signals an end to the prevailing heatwave conditions in the region, thanks to a significant shift in the weather pattern.

According to the Met Office, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the upper parts of the country beginning tonight. Simultaneously, moist winds from the northeast are anticipated to move into Punjab by May 1, contributing to increased rainfall activity.

As a result of this system, areas including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sahiwal, and Faisalabad, as well as parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and other regions of Punjab, can expect intermittent rain and thunderstorms. Some areas may also experience isolated heavy downpours and hail from the night of April 30 through May 4.

Additionally, rain accompanied by thunder and possible dust storms is expected in southern parts of Punjab — including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar — as well as areas in Sindh such as Sukkur, Khairpur, Sanghar, and Mirpurkhas, and parts of Balochistan between May 2 and 5.

In response to the forecast, Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is on high alert. PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia confirmed that, following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, all key departments — including Education, Health, Irrigation, Local Government, and Livestock — are fully mobilized to respond to any emergencies that may arise from the expected Islamabad rain and broader regional weather activity.
