Heatwave Alert: Karachi to Face Intense Heat for Next Five Days, PMD
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that Karachi will experience a heatwave starting today (Thursday), lasting for the next five days, as reported by national media outlets.
According to the alert issued by the PMD, Karachi is expected to endure high temperatures with humidity levels ranging between 70 and 80 percent. Although the daytime temperature is forecasted to be around 36°C, the high humidity will cause it to feel significantly hotter—between 40°C and 42°C.
However, the PMD also noted that due to the resumption of sea breezes, there is currently no strong indication of a heatwave persisting in Karachi, unlike other regions of the country.
In Islamabad, hot and dry conditions are expected, with temperatures climbing up to 39°C. The PMD further warned that extreme heat is likely on May 20 in Sindh, South Punjab, and Balochistan, while severe heat is anticipated in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Upper Punjab, and Kashmir.
Authorities have urged vulnerable groups, including children, women, and the elderly, to take necessary precautions during this period of intense heat.
