New Rain System to Provide Relief from Heatwave Across Pakistan from Today

27 May, 2025 11:30

A new rain system is set to enter the upper parts of Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, starting Tuesday night. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, this development is expected to bring much-needed rain and ease the ongoing heatwave affecting many regions.

Deputy Director of the Met Department, Irfan Virk, stated that northern and central parts of the country will experience intermittent rainfall throughout the week. The system is likely to significantly lower temperatures and provide relief from the intense heat.

Rainfall accompanied by strong winds, thunderstorms, and hail is forecast from May 27 to 31 in several areas. In Punjab, regions including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, and other districts such as Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Sargodha will be affected. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also see rain in areas like Swat, Dir, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and Bannu. In South Punjab and Balochistan, rain is expected in Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Zhob, Ziarat, and surrounding regions from May 27 to 30.

The Met Department has warned that hail and strong winds may damage solar panels, power infrastructure, and light structures, particularly in rural areas.

Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA) in Punjab and KP have issued alerts to local administrations due to the new expected rain system. Emergency machinery has been put on standby to address potential road blockages, floods, or power outages. PDMA officials confirmed that the alert follows directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Tourists and travellers, especially those heading to hill stations like Murree, Galiyat, and northern KP, are advised to remain cautious. There is a risk of landslides and flash floods in vulnerable areas. Authorities have urged people to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid parking near trees or power lines, and keep emergency kits ready.
