PMD Issues Warning as Severe Heatwave Grips Karachi
Karachi is currently facing an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 40°C and sea breezes completely stalled, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a heatstroke warning.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported hot and dry conditions across the city, with humidity reaching 61 percent on Wednesday. The lack of sea breeze has worsened the heatwave in Karachi, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke.
Residents are advised to take precautions by avoiding direct sunlight and staying hydrated, especially between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the heat is most severe.
A meteorological official noted that Karachi is experiencing suspended sea breezes, while strong hot and dry winds from the southeast are expected throughout the day, blowing at speeds of 25 to 35 km/h. A partial return of the sea breeze is anticipated in the evening.
The PMD ruled out any chance of rain in Karachi today, forecasting clear skies and continued hot weather in the coming days.
Hot & Dry Conditions Persist Nationwide
Similar hot and dry weather has been reported in much of Sindh and Balochistan, with heatwave conditions likely to continue in the southern plains.
Punjab experienced high temperatures, but scattered showers are expected tonight or in the evening in areas including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Lahore, Okara, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Bahawalnagar, and Bahawalpur.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the weather remained hot in most districts, with rain expected in parts of Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Chitral, and Dir.
Islamabad is forecast to remain hot and dry during the day, though rain, wind, and isolated hailstorms are possible in the evening or night.
Meanwhile, parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to receive rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms, providing some relief from the heat affecting much of the country.
