Lahore Heatwave Alert: Temperature Records to Be Shattered, PMD Warns

09 June, 2025 12:16

Lahore: The ongoing heatwave continues to grip the nation, causing widespread discomfort among citizens.

Even on the third day of Eid, Lahore saw no respite from the relentless heat. The sun’s intensity was felt from early morning, and the Meteorological Department has warned that temperature records could be shattered.

According to the Met Office, Lahore’s minimum temperature is expected to be around 32°C, while the maximum may soar to 46°C. Currently, the city is experiencing a temperature of 39°C.

Weather forecasts indicate that the extreme heat will persist in the coming days, with no likelihood of rain. The humidity level stands at 20%.

Elsewhere, temperatures in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are projected to be up to 7°C above average, while Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan could see temperatures 4 to 6°C higher than normal.

As the heatwave intensifies in Lahore, there has been a noticeable spike in the demand for cold refreshments. Vendors selling chilled water, soft drinks, and ice cream are witnessing increased footfall.

Health professionals have urged the public to stay cautious in the sweltering conditions. They recommend covering the head with cloth when outdoors, staying hydrated with cool beverages, and ensuring special care is given to children, the elderly, and those with health conditions.
