Heavy rains and thunderstorms forecast for Karachi from Friday to Sunday

karachi monsoon rains pmd forecast
Karachi – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the first monsoon spell of the season for Karachi, beginning Friday evening, with rain expected to continue through Sunday.
According to the PMD, a low-pressure system over Indian Gujarat is affecting weather across Sindh, including Karachi. This system is expected to bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and urban flooding risks.
Saturday to See Heaviest Downpour
Meteorologist Anjum Nazir said that light showers may begin on Friday evening, but the heaviest rain is likely on Saturday. Continuous rain on Saturday could cause urban flooding, especially in low-lying areas.
Rain is expected to become intermittent on Sunday, but wet conditions may still affect traffic and daily life.
Rest of Sindh Also at Risk
The monsoon system is not limited to Karachi. Other parts of Sindh are also expected to receive moderate to heavy rain. The PMD warns that urban flooding risks apply to these areas as well.
Rain Emergency in Islamabad and Rawalpindi
Meanwhile, heavy rain has already impacted Islamabad and Rawalpindi. On Thursday, strong monsoon showers hit many areas, prompting WASA (Water and Sanitation Agency) to declare a rain emergency.
Emergency teams and heavy machinery were deployed to flood-prone areas like Committee Chowk underpass and Murree Road.
Rainfall recorded by PMD includes:
-
35mm in Bokra
-
33mm in Pirwadhai
-
31mm in Saidpur
-
23mm in Golra
With the monsoon system spreading across the country, more urban centers are now facing flood alerts and waterlogging concerns.
