PMD Forecasts More Rainfall for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Twin Cities on High Alert
ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast further rainfall in Islamabad and Rawalpindi over the next 24 hours, following heavy showers on Monday night that prompted high alerts across several areas.
According to PMD data, Islamabad’s H-8 sector received the highest recorded rainfall at 66mm, while Shamsabad in Rawalpindi saw 59mm. The recent downpours have significantly raised water levels in key reservoirs. Rawal Dam has reached 1,735.5 feet, nearing its full capacity of 1,752 feet. Simly Dam is also approaching its limit, currently measuring 2,247.55 feet against a capacity of 2,315 feet.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) reported that the water level in Nullah Lai stood at 12.5 feet at Katarian and 6.5 feet at Gawalmandi Bridge. Authorities have urged residents in low-lying areas to remain cautious, limit unnecessary movement, and stay alert for potential flooding.
Rainfall is also expected in Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Narowal. In contrast, most districts of Sindh are likely to experience continued hot and humid weather. Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to remain dry, while Azad Kashmir may see rain accompanied by thunder and gusty winds.
Authorities are closely monitoring the weather conditions and have advised the public to adhere to safety guidelines during the ongoing wet spell.
