New Monsoon Spell Hits Pakistan: Heavy Rains, Floods Alerts Issued for Multiple Regions

Punjab, Kashmir, KP To Receive Heavy Rains; Floods Alert Issued
Islamabad – A fresh wave of monsoon is currently affecting various regions across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, impacting several districts and causing alerts to be issued regarding potential floods and heavy rains.
According to the Meteorological Department, this monsoon system is expected to continue from July 5 to July 8, with chances of further rain and strong winds over the next few days.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of heavy rainfall in many parts of the province between July 5 and July 10.
A PDMA spokesperson revealed that Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad are likely to receive rain. Forecasts also include Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, and Faisalabad, while Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Mianwali may face thunderstorms with heavy rain.
From July 6 to 8, districts such as Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal, Lodhran, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Layyah are also expected to see thunderstorms and rainfall.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that from July 7, major rivers could experience a significant rise in water levels, which may lead to flooding in nearby streams, hill torrents, and seasonal drains. Urban areas in central and northern Punjab are also at risk of urban flooding.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms are also expected in several areas.
The Meteorological Department has forecast scattered to heavy rainfall in regions including Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Torghar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kurram, Mohmand, Chitral, Khyber, Orakzai, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Kohat, Hangu, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, D.I. Khan, Tank, and both North and South Waziristan.
Authorities have warned that intense rainfall may lead to flooding in the Kabul, Swat, and Panjkora rivers, with a high risk of flash flooding in Swabi, Mardan, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, and Shangla.
Landslides could also block roads in mountainous areas. In terms of temperature, the highest readings were recorded in Mir Khani and Pattan Kohistan at 41°C, followed by Lower Chitral, Drosh, Bannu, and D.I. Khan at 40°C, Peshawar at 35°C, and Timergara at 36°C.
In Balochistan, most districts will remain hot and humid, but rain with thunder is likely in Barkhan, Rakhni, Kohlu, Musakhel, Dera Bugti, Loralai, Sibi, Qila Abdullah, Ziarat, Bolan, Zhob, Kalat, Mastung, and Khuzdar.
Due to the ongoing weather conditions, relevant departments have been put on high alert to deal with any emergency situations promptly.
