Weather Alert: Punjab to Receive Heavy Rainfall, Thunderstorms From July 7

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert to the administration across the province regarding expected rainfall from July 7 to 8.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, rainfall is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad. Rain is also forecasted for Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, and Faisalabad.

The spokesperson added that heavy rain with thunderstorms is predicted in Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Mianwali. Between July 6 and 8, there is also a chance of thunderstorms and rain in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal, Lodhran, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Layyah.

From July 7 to 8, a significant increase in water flow is expected in the province’s major rivers. There is a risk of flooding in river-adjacent streams, hill torrents, and seasonal drains. Urban flooding is also a threat in northern and central Punjab due to heavy rain.

Following the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, all concerned departments have been pre-alerted.

The Director General of PDMA has urged the public to take precautionary measures in bad weather. He advised people to stay in safe places during storms and avoid unnecessary travel. Citizens should seek shelter during thunderstorms and ensure children stay away from low-lying areas, water, electric wires, and poles. The public is also strongly advised not to stay under the open sky during lightning and storm conditions.
