Light Rain Brings Relief to Karachi, More Showers Expected

Karachi: Light rain fell across various parts of the cityearly Sunday morning, providing much-needed relief to residents following several days of hot and humid weather. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain later in the month for Karachi.

According to the PMD, areas that experienced light showers included Malir, Shah Faisal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, North Karachi, New Karachi, Surjani Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan-e-Maymar, II Chundrigar Road, PIDC, Saddar, Burns Road, and the vicinity of the airport.

The highest recorded rainfall was 2.3 millimetres on University Road. Other locations such as the airport, PAF Base Faisal, and Gulshan-e-Hadeed received 2mm. Korangi and Jinnah Terminal saw 1.4mm, while Keamari and Surjani Town had minimal rainfall of 0.2mm.

The weather department has predicted more rain with thunder in the coming days, with temperatures expected to remain between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius in Karachi. A new monsoon system may arrive in Sindh during the final week of July, potentially bringing more rainfall.

In anticipation of the upcoming rain, the Sindh government has suspended local government staff holidays and activated emergency response plans. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that teams are prepared to quickly drain water from low-lying areas.

Weather experts report that the current rain system is over southwestern Uttar Pradesh in India and is moving toward Rajasthan. If it maintains its path, it may begin to impact Karachi and other parts of Sindh by the end of the week.
